Adin Ross has been streaming on Twitch since 2019 and his popularity skyrocketed when he began playing NBA 2K20. When transitioning to NBA 2K21, Ross made his unfavorable opinion of the new game known, and his criticisms began trending worldwide. In 2021 he became part of Clout Gang 2.0, a collective of streaming personalities and influencers. In 2022, Adin Ross was swatted twice during live streams, an occurance that has become much too common in the industry.

While chatting away with his streaming partner and discussing the fact that most people will never be able to afford a Bugatti, the topic of average American salaries came up. After a brief pause in which the streamers both waited for the other to delve deeper into the topic, the pair shared a laugh at their own confusion. Ross then posed the question. “So the average salary is, what, like $100 000?” he asked earnestly, while leaning towards the other streamer awaiting a response.
Completely flabbergasted, his guest offered the hugely popular Twitch streamer a look of indignation and shock. Confused, Ross then asked what the average salary was. “Bro, probably like, what, 20-30k?” his streaming partner replied. When Ross responded with frank disbelief he asked once more what the average was. Appearing to gesture to something on the screen in front of them, Ross’s fellow streamer clarified that it was closer to 30-40K. Then it was Ross’s turn for disbelief. “What?!” he exclaimed, clearly in shock, “It’s really 40K?” Before the clip cuts off, his guest starts to talk about how this is a good example of what they mean when they say Ross is from a different world.
That’s an excellent point. Ross, 22, achieved a such a high level of success by the time he was still relatively young, that he likely didn’t have to go through the financial struggles that most do. The amount of money hugely successful streamers make is into the millions of dollars, and that’s besides any sponsorship deals that a creator might have. That’s obviously caused a huge disconnect for the content creator, and, possibly, wildly unreasonable expectations for fans and aspiring streamers of his age group.
Regardless, the revelation was probably a good lesson for Ross. Even though he’ll likely keep finding ways to make boat loads of money, like with the gambling partnership that nets him huge earnings, hopefully the streamer will keep the financial realities of most Americans in the back of his mind.
