Activision has confirmed what this new game is all about with a press release this morning detailing that Beenox will move players from dimensional shifts to time travel with Spider-Man: Edge of Time.

The Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions follow-up will again let players play more than just The Amazing Spider-Man, but you can say goodbye to Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man Noir, as the only other playable Spidey we know of is Spider-Man 2099 (as seen in the eyes of Spidey in the box art below).

Vicharin Vadakan, Global Brand Manager for Activision announces:

Beenox’s head honcho, Dee Brown, explains how they’ve again developed a new and innovate way at exploring the multiple facets of Spider-Man vast Marvel Comics history (and future).

Read our Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions review to see why’re excited about Beenox’s next Spidey adventure and why their titles are the best Marvel has right now on the video game front. We’re also happy it’s not another Marvel movie tie-in like Thor: God of Thunder and Captain America: Super Soldier.

As previously announced, Spider-Man: Edge of Time will be showcased at WonderCon 2011 in San Francisco where they can see the game first-hand. There will also be a panel for attendees on Saturday, April 2, at 4:30 p.m. in Room 103.

What do you think of the gameplay concept behind Edge of Time? Being able to play both the current and future Spider-Man incarnations simultaneously allowing one to affect the other is an interesting concept and I’m curious to see who the villains are for this Spidey adventure.

We expect Spider-Man: Edge of Time to hit all major platforms like its predecessor, including Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, 3DS and PC. It releases this fall.
