A new trailer shows off what players can expect from the Content Season, along with screenshots that highlight the first batch of content in the pipeline.
The Modern Warfare 3 Content Season lasts from January to September. Expect to see five content drops from now until March, with a bundle releasing then. There will also be a variety of prizes up for grabs around the release of each content drop. In addition to map packs, content drops will include new Special Ops missions, game modes, and more.
Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, lays out the company’s vision for the Modern Warfare 3 Content Season.

Players can expect to see the first two new multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare 3, Piazza and Liberation, release this month. Of the two maps, Liberation is larger, and is supposedly great for LMG users and snipers. Piazza is a more typical Modern Warfare 3 map, as it focuses on tight corners and close combat and will also focus on a sense of verticality. The maps can be played in both multiplayer and Spec Ops Survival mode.

Judging by Activision’s wording, it sounds as though Content Seasons are going to be an ongoing part of future Call of Duty titles. The only issue with the approach is that no matter whether one is an Elite subscriber or not, the content drops will still be available first on the Xbox 360. It doesn’t seem fair to withhold content for a month if people are paying $50 a year for what is essentially Activision’s version of a Season Pass.
What do you think of the Content Season approach to Modern Warfare 3 DLC?
Modern Warfare 3 is currently available on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii and DS.
