Call of Duty: Mobile has been doing very well for Activision Blizzard garnering more than 500 million downloads as of May. Just this past June, it was announced that a new AAA Call of Duty game was in development for mobile. The mobile market is a lucrative one and it appears that Activision Blizzard wants to further grow in it.

Activision Blizzard announced the acquisition of Digital Legends, mobile game developers responsible for the Respawnables series of games, and Afterpulse. Digital Legends has already been working with the other teams under Activision Mobile throughout the year. Digital Legends will be supporting the development of a new mobile Call of Duty game. While Digital Legends’ Respawnables series has a more cartoony aesthetic, Afterpulse offers impressive realistic mobile graphics and gameplay mechanics that will greatly aid in the new Call of Duty game.

Currently, there isn’t further news on the mobile Call of Duty game that is being worked on. Call of Duty: Mobile has done very well for Activision Blizzard so one would imagine this new game wouldn’t want to overlap. Although Call of Duty: Mobile had a Zombies mode added a couple of months ago, it didn’t play like a traditional Call of Duty Zombies mode.

The development of a Call of Duty game specifically focused on Zombies for mobile might sell incredibly well and won’t overlap on the experience Call of Duty: Mobile offers. Activision did release Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies back in 2015 for mobile but hasn’t been updated in quite some time, preventing many from playing the game if their phones are too new.

Of course, it’s also possible the new AAA Call of Duty mobile game is something completely separate from Zombies. It could replace Call of Duty: Mobile as a port of Call of Duty: Warzone or take a more single-player route. There are many different ways that the game could go. Regardless of what it ends up being, with the various studios currently being hired by Activision Blizzard, it’s probably a safe bet on it being its largest mobile game to date.
