Activision has been around for some time, and there are many titles it developed that have been pushed aside. Retro games have a niche audience, and with modern titles releasing, the distance between them and fans only gets larger. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a portal into a fictional version of the past, and thus is a perfect opportunity to try some classic Activision games.

Activision has released 10 classic titles for players in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. These games were originally released by Activision, but now they are completely free for players to enjoy. The full list is Barnstorming, Boxing, Chopper Command, Enduro, Fishing Derby, Grand Prix, Kaboom, Pitfall, Pitfall 2, and River Raid. Some of these are iconic Activision classics, while others have faded into obscurity. For many players, this is a chance to see the origins of the massive publishing company, and the Atari-style titles that made them popular during the late 80s and early 90s.

During the promotional period for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the developers hid references to many of these iconic titles in its teaser site. For example, in the background of the pawntakespawn website, fans saw a copy of the original advertisement for Chopper Command. Call of Duty has often touched on Activision’s origins using Easter eggs, but to connect them directly to the shooter franchise is a different story.

The games are free to play in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, and can be accessed through the Barracks. The entirety of each game is included, and fans have no limit on how long they can access the titles. It is unknown how long these titles will be available, but they will remain for at least the length of Season 3.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Season 3 has so far exceeded many fans’ expectations. As the community digs through patch notes, they are continuing to find new features buried under technical headings. For many, this season is expected to be the push that Call of Duty has needed.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
